Community Involvement and Outreach

Community Crafts

QSC is proud to be the host of a wonderful group of ladies who meet twice a month: Community Crafts! Some may see this as a means to visit and work on projects, which is done, BUT… did you know, this group donates and distributes hundreds of cozy handmade items throughout the community? Here are some of the wonderful beneficiaries of this great team:

  • Patients at GF Hospital Cancer Center receive hats and lap blankets
  • Residents at Centers Health Nursing Homes receive hats, robes & lap blankets
  • Open Arms Pregnancy Center receives baby hats and blankets
  • Warren County Head Start receives nap blankets
  • The Wait House receives a wide variety of items
  • Queensbury Elementary School receives over 300 hats & almost 100 mitten pairs, plus scarfs, each year through the “Hat & Mitten Tree” project for students in need.

Chairwoman Ginny DeSantis & the entire Community Crafts group would like to give heartfelt THANKS to all of those who have contributed to the many projects throughout the year!

Community Crafts will always accept donations of acrylic yarn. Anyone with a basic knowledge of crocheting or knitting is welcome to join the group, which meets the 2nd and last Monday of the month at 9:30 a.m. at the Center.

Annual Grandparents’ Breakfast

For over 30 years, QSC members have been partnering with Queensbury Elementary and Intermediate Schools to ensure the ever popular “Grandparents Breakfast” goes off without a hitch!

It takes many QSC members to plan, prepare, execute and work the 5 days that this event is held. Grandparents from all over come to enjoy breakfast with their grandchildren, some as far as England! There is nothing like seeing the looks of pride and joy in the children’s faces as they show their grandparents their school.

Donations are always accepted and distributed by QSC.

  • Each year, over $1500 in donations of non-perishable foods are collected at QSC and donated to food pantries
  • QSC collects travel size toiletries for the Open Door Mission “Code Blue” Shelter
  • QSC collects many items for our men and women oversees, including: snacks, candy, small games, etc.
  • QSC collects items for SPCA of Upstate NY. We will always take newspapers (no shiny inserts), bleach, detergent, hand towels and washcloths (does not need to be new), dog and cat food, dog and cat toys, etc.

Seasonal Donations Accepted:

  • Toys for Boys and Girls, partnering with the Marine Corps League, QSC collects new toys during the Holiday season to distribute to kids in Warren, Washington and Saratoga County
  • “Be a Santa to a Senior”, partnering with Home Instead Senior Care, QSC collects gifts for Seniors in our community who have certain needs and/or wants during the holiday season. This is a very popular program and we usually have more seniors who want to give then seniors who need.

We also do other community campaigns. For example, in April 2019 we collected food items for the Backpack Program at Queensbury Elementary School, which sends kids home with food items who may need extras during the weekend or school breaks. QES has 103 students who take advantage of the backpack program!
