Our journey begins with a 7am departure from QSC to Upstate New York and the beautiful 1000 Islands. There are thousands of islands both large and small where the mighty St. Lawrence River meets Lake Ontario near the resort community of Alexandria Bay, NY. Appropriately enough this region is called “The Thousand Islands” and our accommodations for two evenings will be at the Riveredge Resort, a 4-Diamond award winning hotel, located directly on the water. From the Riveredge you will see many large ships passing through the St. Lawrence Seaway, the main channel from the upper Great Lakes to the sea. Before dinner enjoy a Tours of Distinction exclusive wine and cheese reception. Dinner is included at the hotel and weather permitting we will go into town and watch a famous sunset over the St. Lawrence. After a full breakfast buffet, included at the hotel, it is off to explore the 1000 Islands by water. This international tour will take you on a 22 mile round-trip through American and Canadian waters, what is considered the ‘heart’ of the 1000 Islands, including Millionaire’s Row. You will have lively narrative from professional guides as you cruise through the narrow channels. During our cruise we will visit mysterious Singer Castle on Dark Island and romantic Boldt Castle on Heart Island. (Note: There will be some walking on the two islands). Dinner at the Clipper Inn, Clayton. After breakfast we’ll leave Alexandria Bay and travel to Herkimer in the scenic Mohawk River Valley for a canal boat excursion through the locks of the historic Erie Canal. An approximate return of 5pm to QSC.
